TWO 4-year-old girls raised the alarm after they heard their aunt screaming for help.
The 14-year-old aunt was looking after them when she suddenly disappeared. Minutes later the girls heard her screaming at the top of her lungs and begging for help from a nearby shack in Umlazi, south of Durban.
They quickly rushed there but couldn’t open the door.
The girls immediately alerted the neighbours.
However when the neighbours arrived, their aunt’s lifeless body was wrapped in a sheet and lying on the bed, bleeding profusely from the nose and mouth.
It is believed that she was raped by her cousin, who was nowhere to be found.
A neighbour told Daily Sun the dead aunt had a rope tied tightly around her neck andthere were signs that she had been raped.
“She was already dead when we arrived. All our attempts to resuscitate her failed as she was not breathing.
“We were terribly shocked by the incident. Hopefully the cops will work around the clock to find the suspect wherever he is hiding, so he can be prosecuted for doing such a terrible thing to a young girl,” she said.
The uncle (47) of the dead girl told Daily Sun: “I wish the suspect was here so he could explain why he did this. I’m glad my grandchildren managed to call the neighbours but it’s so sad that my niece was already dead.”
Major Thulani Zwane confirmed the incident.
“The dead girl was allegedly strangled by her cousin with a rope.
“A case of murder was opened at Umlazi Police Station for investigation but no arrest has been made,” he said.
